Silas Update #21 (June 4, 10:30 am)

Things are still looking good around here. His ICP (intracranial pressure) looks so so good. It is hanging out around a 7 which is great. They don’t want it above 20. Before the drain it was up to 30.

Also, his blood pressure looks good. They even took him off that medication and it still looks good.

They are reducing sedation bit by bit. They will do a little bit of neurological testing here and there (ask for him to wiggle toes, thumbs up, etc). We are still not supposed to stimulate him. Our sweet nurse, Michelle, said that if he hears our voices and physically can’t respond that might be frustrating.

Pray that Si’s brain continues to heal. That he will begin to need the drain less and less. Pray that he can regulate his own body temperature. Pray that the blood clots dissipate and no new ones form.

Pray for patience for Ryan and I. It is not likely that we will actually get to interact with him today. Pray for wisdom about when we should be here and when we should be home.

Pray for our other children- Caleb, Cheyenne, Collin and Alexa. Pray for the grandparents as they care for our children. Please pray for my sister, Ann, as she flies here from Massachusetts tomorrow to be with us.

Thank you all so much!!! We feel ALL the love!

Anyone who is new to these updates… don’t forget to check out our sweet Si’s testimony. It’s below the updates.

Silas and his cousin Josiah. Crazy boys.

  1. Your grandpa just told me what an amazing young man you are Si. I am praying Gods healing power over you today and the days ahead. God is able to turn things around and I’m praying he do that just. I am praying for and with each of you. We have some mighty prayer warriors at Brown Missionary Baptist church here is Southaven and we’re all gone to intercede on your behalf. God is good!

  3. I’m sure you probably don’t know
me, but I taught 5th grade at RECA several years ago, so I know the Atkinson name. I’ve been following your updates and am praying for you all. How sweet it is to know our Heavenly Father loves Silas deeply and that he is His! Trusting in His Sovereign hand to guide the doctors, heal Silas, and bring peace and wisdom to all involved! I will continue to pray for you all!

  6. In the front of my Bible I have outlined my all time favorite sermon preached by Steve Farrar at Stonebriar, Chuck Swindoll’s church.
The title is, Our Sovereign God. It is my go- to very often.

    1. God has your future
    .Psalm 31: 14-15
    .Psalm 139: 16
    2. God is abundantly available in tight places
    .Psalm 46:1
    3. God is the transactor of all my affairs
    .Psalm 57: 2-3
    4. God is in control
    .Proverbs 21:1
    5. God will take time but He will not waste time
    .Isaiah 64:4

These passages have calmed my heart, lifted my spirits, and rendered peaceful my soul time and time again.

  7. At the end of first grade I was in a bus accident. We were hit by a sand truck. I woke up in the bus after being unconscious with sand up to my chest. During that summer I started having seizures. I do remember being unconscious, but totally aware of what people were saying around me. I remember hearing them and could not do anything to respond to them. I believe Silas will be able to definitely hear you as he wakes up and may not be able to respond. You can speak peace to him and tell him, as the Dr’s and nurses think is good, how Jesus has kept him and how many are praying for him.

  8. Praying for you, sweet Silas and for your family. You are so strong! You are a fighter even when you don’t know that you are. Just as you were in class, full of love and the light of Christ, strong, tough and always free. God is carrying you.
